Healthy Holiday Cocktails with Carli @ x2o Studio

I can’t believe it's already November!

We’ve had tons of new clients come in this month so I thought I'd re- introduce myself! My name is Carli Rubi, when I’m not in the studio I am currently finishing up my bachelors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and have plans to apply for my masters to pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Dietitian. I love creating new recipes that are whole food and nutrient dense and I am so lucky I get to share them with you all through this platform!

With Thanksgiving approaching I figured most of us have our own traditional way of cooking dinner or dessert so I wanted to put something together that would be creative and fun for you!

Today I have created 1 mocktail and 2 cocktail recipes to enjoy with your family and friends this holiday season.

I know, I know alcohol is definitely not healthy but most of us enjoy a cocktail here and there so I figured I’d give you all a chance to make one without any added artificial sugars or flavoring. A healthy diet is not about being perfect 100% of the time, it’s about making small sustainable choices to support all the hard work your body does for you. The x2o team is SO thankful for all of you! Enjoy!

Drink Recipe 1: Apple Cider “Mimosa” Mocktail:

I chose this drink as our mocktail because I figured not everyone wants to start their day with alcohol, but I still want you to enjoy that bubbly-ness at your thanksgiving brunch. Of course champagne for breakfast is always an option for this one so feel free to give it your own flare. This one is so simple with just two ingredients!

Get creative and create a mimosa bar for your family with fun juices or garnishes to add to their drink :)

  • 1 oz Pressed Apple Cider --  I used one from Whole foods. Ingredients were apples, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. For the best quality, look at your ingredients list and make sure there are no added sugars!

  • Health-Ade Pink Lady Apple Kombucha. -- Fill to the top of your glass (Kombucha is the perfect substitute for champagne, it is just as bubbly and gives off that fermented tangy flavor.)

  • For garnish I added a sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg rim for extra spice!

Drink Recipe 2: Smokey Orange Mezcal

You NEED to give this next cocktail a try. If you are new to Mezcal this drink is the perfect way to dip your toes into its unique smoky flavor. This one is an easy drink with the perfect balance of citrus and spice. Garnish with an orange wedge and enjoy!

½ oz Mezcal

1 oz Reposado Tequila

1½ oz Apple Cider (see previous drink)

¾ lemon juice

Splash of Health-Ade Holiday Cheers Kombucha

Shake the spirits and juices over ice and strain into your glass over a big rock. Leave a little room to add your splash of kombucha and garnish with an orange slice!

Drink Recipe 3: Cranberry Whiskey

My family is full of big whiskey drinkers so I had to include one for them! This drink is the perfect balance between sweet and tart. It has lots of citrus notes with cranberry allowing you to enjoy all the winter fruits.

1½ oz Cranberry Juice- No sugar added

1½  oz Whiskey

1 oz Lemon juice

½ Lime juice

Shake or stir over ice and pour over a big rock! Garnish an orange peel and enjoy!

Carli Rubi

My fitness journey started at the early age of 4 when I was placed into my first dance class. I was hooked from the beginning and continued my dance career for 14 years. In those 14 years, I tried sports like volleyball and softball but my heart always chose dance. When I got to college I left my dance career and quickly realized I needed to fill the void. I tried personal trainers where I was able to experiment with weight training, HIIT training, and gained an overall boost of confidence in my strength. After a couple of years I realized that I missed a class/community feeling to my workouts. I began to experiment with pilates classes and even went on to work towards my reformer pilates certification. Before teaching at x2o Studio, I taught at Lagree LG in Los Gatos. I am currently studying Nutrition and Dietetics at San Jose University with the hope to pursue a career as a Registered Dietitian. I love being able to fulfill a lifestyle in health and wellness through my studies and my career as a trainer.
